See More As a member of Taylor University’s award-winning student newspaper, The Echo, you learn indispensable lessons as you prepare for post-college careers. This opportunity for practical experience will add a healthy dose of personal and professional development. The staff is comprised of about 30 students with several contributing writers from the Taylor community. The Echo is an opportunity for leadership as the students on staff serve their fellow classmates, professors and Taylor staff members.

Working at The Echo means learning how to produce a product every week, encourage creativity, juggle continual deadlines and work with a team. You have the opportunity to write in different journalistic styles including news, feature, opinions, reviews, profiles and sports.

We produce the paper every Thursday night, and the staff can be found in the state-of-the-art media lab. We maintain a creative environment, sharing ideas and continually learning from each other during our pursuit of excellence. Each school year, we submit our work to contests such as Baptist Press, Associated Collegiate Press, Indiana Collegiate Press Association and Society of Professional Journalism. These competitions allow us to compete against some of the best journalism schools in the country. We regularly win awards in a variety of categories.

As journalists, we strive to report the truth and provide the campus community with thought-provoking content and opportunities for healthy conversations of current issues. We are able to take what we learn in our classes and directly apply them to improving the paper. The Echo is a key player in documenting Taylor’s history as it happens. With this in mind, the staff has high expectations placed on them to perform their best each week.
